In celebration of Midsummer and International Fairy day, a short fairy-filled catch up blog with plenty of pics :-)

Hello, I hope this finds you well and hopefully having enjoyed some time outside in the light of the longer days and the warmth of the summer (if you're reading this from somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere!?). June, for us, has certainly been a month of picnics, walks, gatherings and simple celebrations outside and we enjoyed a lovely family picnic in a favourite spot to celebrate the solstice just passed. Sitting in the grass at sunset and enjoying a gentle breeze cooling us all down after all the heat of the last week, and savouring some un-hurried time all together was both soothing and uplifting.
In honour of International Fairy Day (today!) I've included a few fairy pictures below. This little crew flew the nest a few weeks ago and although they all have different themes and colour schemes, made a lovely little vibrant, summery and flowery collection.

These three little ladybug fairies have also flown the nest - whilst they are also a little summery collection, each one is slightly different. Their red-and-black spotty skirts and wings are sewn from hand-made felt, and I incorporated different black and red laces into the bodice & wings, and each little ladybird is adorned with some even smaller ladybird friends of their own... can you spot them? I always feel lucky when a ladybird lands on me and I remember the children being mesmerised by them too when they were small... indeed, ladybirds, or ladybugs, are considered to be an omen of good fortune in many folklore traditions around the world :-)

The little fairy below was a custom handmade rainbow fairy in a beautiful gift box with some cute little surprises inside including stickers, wishing stars and a handmade needle-felted kawaii rainbow cloud hanging charm. I really love putting these boxes together and have so much fun dreaming up the fairies and extra goodies to include!

The picture below is a closer example of what's in the box...

The very short video below captures a few moments of our summer solstice walk and picnic, shortly before sunset. Watching the long grass blowing gently in the evening breeze felt so serene and soothing, I only wish we had more time to linger before the fall of darkness on the longest day of the year...
I'll finish up with a farewell from these little ladybug fairies that would be right at home amongst the wildflowers...

I took the picture below on one of my evening walks as the sun was not far from setting - the pinks and reds stood out so vibrantly in the slowly dwindling light, and I felt lucky to have caught them just at that moment. And although this time of year can be so busy with school and work commitments, the solstices can also offer a moment of pause and reflection. The wildflowers in abundant bloom right now were only seeds not so long ago; it's a lovely moment to take a breath and wonder - what other seeds (and dreams), real or imagined, might be planted and take root, tended and nurtured throughout the year to come?

I hope this post finds you well and that you've also enjoyed plenty of time outside in the warmth at the height of Summer. ♥
