A short summer update - a pause between worlds - with a hand-drawn fairy-tale illustration.
Hello again! I hope this blog finds you well hopefully having enjoyed a restful and restorative summer break.
I've taken the time this summer to be with the family, catch up on some reading time, and generally make some space as we navigate a big life transition with our eldest...
The drawing accompanying this post was actually one of my first ever drawings called 'Doorways' (that I think I might have shared on an early blog), sketched out very quickly with a biro on a scrap of paper, whilst the children were either napping or playing. It was just before my son started in reception - that was over fourteen years ago! I found the drawing at the start of this summer, during a day of decluttering and sorting, and it felt kind of poignant - on the brink once again of another big transition as he was about to receive his exam results and find out what his next steps might be. At the time, the image of a doorway in a magical garden felt like a metaphor for change - as one chapter closes, another one opens, and who knows what adventures await?
I decided to re-work the drawing digitally and it felt fitting for this month of pause as work has been going on a bit more behind the scenes than usual and updates on fairies and other projects aren't ready to share yet. The drawing is very close to the original - very simple and not too neat - and all drawn and coloured by hand (no AI!). In the coming weeks as I get back to work and the autumn days draw in, I'm hoping to focus on a few long-overdue website updates that have been planned and in the pipeline for a while now, and of course, lovely things ready for the festive season. It'll be a little while longer before any of that is finished, and whilst family things have taken priority for a bit, it's felt right to slow the pace a little, and knowing that we'll be back to it all again soon.
I'm excited to see what might be behind the door once it opens again and we all embark on our new adventures... each season is a fresh start, a blank page, a chance to be in a new moment in time.
