Midsummer Meadowdreams & Happy International Fairy Day 2026!

A midsummer blog post with a short dreamy & nostalgic nature-inspired fairy video, slow-craft project update & a bit of magical mushroom cuteness at the end!
Hello again from my little corner of the world at its height of wildness and natural abundance just now. It is very hot here today with weather alerts in place so I'll keep this blog short for now with updates to follow another time...
Since we've just passed the summer solstice, and it is once again International Fairy Day, I couldn't let the day pass without sharing a little fairy post.
This lovely pair flew the nest a few weeks ago. I love how their tiny handmade flower crowns turned out and they feel very fitting for all things midsummer and have a feeling of festivals and fairytale celebrations about them. The tiny purple and yellow flowers are all handmade and hand-sewn, and in no small way were inspired by many of the flowers I noticed around me throughout the spring and into the summer.
In fact, I might have developed something of a small obsession with purple flowers this season :-)
Looking back through my camera reel I noticed how many photos of purple flowers I had been taking and how my meadow wanderings directly influence and inspire my fairy-making... my walks in nature are always a time to daydream, decompress, and in the end-of-day/early evening light at this time of year, there is often a nostalgic quality too. The short video below shares a few more pictures of this little purple pair and some of the purple flowers that inspired them...
And in other news, I finally finished my latch-hook cushion cover! A craft-project gifted to me by my sister for Christmas in 2024. It has literally taken me 18 months to complete, in moments here & there and bursts of activity flowed by it being left for a few months - but that is OK! Life is always so full and busy with so much emphasis on productivity and output and it's a wonderful antidote to all of that, to have a project that takes it's time, no rush, slow-burn, and gets there when it gets there.
I'm so pleased with it - I truly love it's vibrant colours and it has already taken pride of place on our sofa.
And then finally, a little sneaky-peak at these cute little happy mushrooms that are currently a work-in-progress to be turned into hanging charms in the autumn. It's been a few years since I've made any mushrooms for sale - and since they would always sell out and I no longer had any here, it was time for a re-stock. I couldn't resist adding some character to these and although they'll be cute at any time of year, they've definitely been giving me plenty of happy, smiley summer-time vibes :-)
